Now that Jessica Chastain has officially exited Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3”, the search is on for a replacement. That could end if Rebecca Hall signs on to the comic book movie sequel.
The trades have British actress Hall, most famous to American audiences as the female lead in Ben Affleck’s crime flick “The Town”, in talks to play the role voluntarily vacated by Chastain in “Iron Man 3”. That role would most likely be Maya Hansen, a scientist and old friend of Tony Stark’s, who calls the superhero in when her colleague Aldrich Killian (a part rumored to have gone to Guy Pearce) gets involved in shenanigans with terrorist types thanks to his latest, dangerous invention.
Ben Kingsley was previously cast as the head of said terrorist types.
Robert Downey Jr. would return as Tony Stark/Iron Man, with Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Stark’s business partner, confidant, and girlfriend. Don Cheadle is also expected back as James Rhodes, Stark’s buddy and a burgeoning superhero called War Machine in his own right. It would be Cheadle’s second film in the franchise after taking over for Terrence Howard in “Iron Man 2”.
Shane Black, most famous for the “Lethal Weapon” movies, will write and direct “Iron Man 3”, the storyline for which is said to be based on the comic book story arc “Extremis” by Warren Ellis.
