Weddings are, for the most part, boring. Sure, you can get all drunk and start making a fool of yourself, which would definitely liven up the party, but then people will be bringing it up for years to come, and no one needs that. You know what weddings need? A good old fashion virus outbreak. That’s apparently what happens in Paco Plaza’s “REC 3: Genesis”, the third entry in the “REC” franchise. Hey, at least this thing isn’t happening in some dark, dank building where you can’t see a damn thing. That’s an improvement. Bottoms up, kids!
The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment, the future ‘[REC] 4 Apocalypse.’
Starring Leticia Dolera, Diego Martín, Javier Botet and directed by Paco Plaza.
