Who knew “Red” would end up being a hit? I certainly didn’t. It felt like a decent action movie with some good laughs, but really, almost $200 million worldwide from a relatively cheap $58 million dollar budget? Besides being a hit, it’s now launched another action franchise for its star Bruce Willis. As if fronting the “Die Hard” movies every few years wasn’t enough for the guy. Anyways, check out the first teaser poster for “Red 2″, due out next year.
The sequel finds the geriatric CIA gang back once again serving their country by, one assumes, killing lots of people and doing things that old people just shouldn’t be doing. Like, you know, killing lots of people. But hey, I’m sure those whipper snappers had it coming.
Besides Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren are also back. They are joined the second time ’round by Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Neal McDonough, and Byung-hun Lee.
Dean Parisot takes over directing chores for Robert Schwentke.
