I don’t know if Nicholas Cage is a great actor or merely great at selling himself in his roles. A lot is made about his propensity for acting in just about any movie he can, as if he has a pre-existing quotient (he was in five movies alone in 2009), but when he plays slimy or rock bottom characters, he really does it well. So it’s nice to see him return to that form in Werner Herzog’s The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans as a rogue detective who bends the law to suit his desires in a post-Katrina world. The clip below seems tame at first, but Nicholas Cage eventually wields the barely contained fury of a man who is intent on getting his way and knows that he can do it.
