Just a reminder to all you kids out there who have basic cable: Timothy Olyphant returns to TV in “Justified” starting tonight, 9:00 p.m. central time. To get you ready, the FX Channel will be rerunning “Live Free or Die Hard” in front of the show’s premiere. Olyphant plays the villain in that one, but in “Justified” he’s all hero — the old school, throwback kind of hero who says what he means, and means what he says. And when he draws his sidearm, you best draw yours, cause it ain’t for show.
Olyphant stars as Raylan Givens, a U.S. Marshal who is demoted back to his hometown after a shooting incident with a Miami “gun thug”. Back home again, Givens must deal with an ex-wife who he still loves, the high school crush that got away, and his old buddy, who has turned to a life of crime. The great Walton Goggins (“The Shield”) plays the old buddy.
“Justified” is one of the best new shows on TV, and if you’re tired of all the silly techno music as actors stand in neon-colored crime labs swirling nonsensical brightly colored liquids around in vials, this show is for you. It’s all about great characters, pathos, and as “real” as you’ll get with a leading man who caps asses in bunches.
