True Vietnam War story about a German-American pilot shot down over Laos during the War, as directed by another German, director Werner Herzog (“Grizzly Man”). If you’ve seen the trailer (below) you’ll agree that Bale has delivered another killer performance, complete with a new personality. It’s funny, but whenever I see Bale in a movie, I think of him like a younger version of Gary Oldman; it’s always incredible to me how well these two guys can just literally lose themselves in a role and become nearly unrecognizable. Anyways, some new “Rescue Dawn” one-sheet poster, images, and trailer links arrived in my email this afternoon.
This film tells the real-life story of U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler (Bale), a German-American shot down and captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Dengler organized a death-defying escape for a small band of POWs, including Duane Martin (Steve Zahn).
“Rescue Dawn” arrives July 4th, just in time to cash in on the most patriotic holiday of them all, but will have to survive getting crushed by the juggernaut that is “Transformers”. Hey, opening with “Transformers”, second place doesn’t sound quite so bad.
