Resident Evil 5 Update: Sienna Guillory May Return After All, Ada Wong and Leon Added

Sienna Guillory in Resident Evil: Afterlife (2004) Movie ImageIf, that is, an upcoming meeting with “Resident Evil: Retribution” director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt goes well. Though honestly, I don’t know what the issue with re-casting Guillory as Jill Valentine in the fifth movie is. They’ve already teased her return in the last movie, what’s prompted this rumor that she’s being recast? It certainly sounds as if Guillory returning was never a done deal, which is surprising.

In any case, Guillory recently tweeted this about possibly coming back to the franchise for the third time around (via STYD):

Big day tomorrow! Meeting Paul Anderson and Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kultzer to see what my future looks like…

Again, I don’t even know what the issue is here, why she even has to “meet” them to return to the franchise. Was there some kind of falling out between them or something? Or did Anderson and company just decided for absolutely no reason just to recast her? Weird.

In any case, besides Milla Jovovich as Alice and Guillory possibly as Jill Valentine, new characters being introduced include the mysterious and beguiling secret agent Ada Wong, “RE” mainstay and all around badass Leon Kennedy and Barry Burton, a STARS commando.

I really, really hope that adding three new characters to the franchise means they’ll also be dumping Claire and Chris Redfield for the fifth installment. It was bad enough that the Redfields really didn’t seem to have any real purpose in “Afterlife” (Claire’s scenes looked like they were rewritten from Alice’s just to justify the character’s appearance, and don’t even get me started on Chris), keeping them hanging on in the fifth movie would just be gratuitous overkill.

Update: 10 Hours after the above tweet, Guillory updated fans with this:

So does this mean she’s recaptured the Jill Valentine role? Sounds like it…
