Resident Evil: Retribution is About Zombies, Umbrella, Milla Jovovich in Pleather, Etc.

Contrary to popular belief, the “Resident Evil” movies aren’t just about Milla Jovovich in tight black pleather fighting hapless zombies or masked henchmen for 90 minutes. There are actually stories to these movies, as this latest 3-minute-plus featurette will attest. Okay, so it’s mostly just Milla Jovovich in tight black pleather going around fighting hapless zombis and masked henchmen and the occasional castmember with dialogue for around 90 minutes. Look, if you plan on seeing this movie on opening day, let’s face it, “story” is the last thing on your mind. Please to enjoy.

In the fifth movie, Alice returns once again to fight alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead. This time around, the undead have been taught to drive cars and shoot machineguns. Yeah.

Also starring Kevin Durand, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Johann Urb, Bingbing Li, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Colin Salmon.

Rising from the grave (again) September 14, 2012.

I don’t get it. At first it looks like they are trying to make a reboot, but then all sorts of elements from the previous movies pop up. Well whatever, after the first movie nothing about this franchise makes much sense anyway.

    • Dedpool

And therein lies the rub. This film weaves in previously unknown backstory so everything we’ve seen to this point was a manipulation of the facts.

      • JM

Well I hope I’m proven wrong, I really do, but it seems like just another layer of nonsense added to the franchise.

So is it or is it not a reboot? I’m really confused by the marketing on this flick. I mean, I kinda figured after the last one that there was nowhere left to go…most of the world was destroyed, the zombies had taken over what was left, and Alice’s clones effectively wiped out Umbrella’s operations (except maybe for Wesker).

So Alice wakes up and finds out that most of the events of the previous films were a VR simulation?

  • Richard B. Riddick

To me its seems as if part of the events (the first and second) did happen and alice was (most likely)caught and put into a simulator (that slowly mind controls her to their will?) to either fight the infection, the resistance, or another faction of umbrella corporation

  • Modprecar

it’s made to be like the matrix were she is caught in the begining & umbrella run all sort of mind experiments on her as she is in a simulater thats my thoughts

  • Dedpool

From the interviews I’ve seen and such it breaks down like this.
Everything from the previous films happened. Most fo the world has gone to hell. Umbrella however has a few facilities left, beign prepared for this.Alice was not the only person cloned. Umberella clones all their employees creating super soldiers out of the clones, while the orginals are clueless and work for Umbrella’s more benign projects like the perfumes, etc. When Retribution starts Alice has is still just human and is reconnecting with people like Luthor from the last film, and meeting new people like Leon. Everyone one that is returning that died is just another soldier cloned from the original. So they are throwing Alice’s past at her to keep her off balance. The scene of her happy family life, that’s the original Alice.
