If you can’t get Kate Beckinsale for your movie, I guess Rhona Mitra isn’t such a bad compromise. The English lovely, who is also headline Neil Marshall’s sci-fi/horror flick “Doomsday”, will star in “Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans” alongside Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy, both of whom will be reprising their characters from the previous two “Underworld” films. They will be directed by former special effects man Patrick Tatopoulos, who is no stranger to “Underworld’s” world, having worked on creature designs on the last two movies. So what can we expect? Um, since a FX guy is in charge, probably really, really cool creature fights! I can dig it.
More from Variety:
Prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
Danny McBride penned the screenplay.
Swapping one English beauty for another was a stroke of genius. Then again, maybe I’m just partial to English beauties. Who knows, maybe Rhona will be playing the mother of Kate Beckinsale’s character…
