True. I don’t like their finger on the slow-mo button either. It takes a special touch to mix it properly with faster action. John Woo obviously has that touch. Personally I don’t think the Watchakowowowoski’s do.

What Keanu et al were using in the movies were overly simplified “martial arts” as taught to them by the action crew. Kick, punch, and block. Really basic stuff. Most of the film’s action scenes were sold by the style with which the Wachowski shot the action — slow mo, stunts, camerawork, etc.

I was never a huge fan of The Matrix films. I wasn’t impressed with the slow-mo,the bullet time and the fragmented philosphy for dummies. But the one thing I was surprised to notice revisiting the movies a few years later after becoming obsessed with REAL Hong Hong cinema..Damn, Keanu and the gang move slow. Compared to real martial artists-they just don’t cut it. Maybe the Wachowski’s realize that too,hence the casting.
