I like Ricky Gervais. In fact, I own both the original version of “The Office” and “Extras” on DVD, and actually go out-of-my-way to listen to his cruel and unusual stand-up routine in Grand Theft Auto 4, much to the dismay of both Roman and Little Jacob. The talented British comic’s upcoming big-screen directorial debut, “The Invention of Lying,” looks to an ungodly amount of fun, due in part to its stellar cast. Did I mention the cast? Well, it includes Jennifer Garner, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Louis CK, Rob Lowe, Stephanie March, Jason Bateman, Patrick Stewart, Jeffrey Tambor, and Christopher Guest, to name a few. That’s a lot of favors. Hope he still has a few left in his account if this project tanks.
For the uninformed masses, a brief synopsis, courtesy of IMDb:
A comedy set in a world where no one has ever lied, until a writer seizes the opportunity for personal gain.
Told you it was brief. The trailer nestled below will probably give you more to chew on. The film fibs its way into American theaters on October 2nd.
