Corey Haim has died at age 38. This is shocking and yet not unexpected news. Anyone who has followed his career over the years, as I have (his 1988 movie “License to Drive” is a personal favorite), knows that he’s had a lot of problems with drugs, alcohol, and the like. For a while there after his teen idol days, Haim was jobless, with Hollywood basically given up on him. He made of a comeback in recent years with a reality TV show co-starring his former buddy Corey Feldman on the A&E show “The Two Coreys”. The show lasted for two years, but it seemed like Haim was on his way back, including a sizable role in “Crank 2”. Sadly, it would appear that Corey’s demons did not care about a career resurgence.
At age 38, Haim was found unconscious in his San Fernando Valley apartment earlier today and was pronounced dead after 3 a.m. at a Burbank hospital. The main cause, to no one’s surprise, seems to be an apparent drug overdose, though authorities have not confirmed it yet.
Rest in peace, Corey Haim. Thanks for the ’80s.
