The apes won’t be rising to enslave mankind until August 15, 2011 in Rupert Wyatt’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (still hate that clunky title), but until then, here’s the first full trailer for the sci-fi reboot. Or is it a prequel? Well, one of those. Nevertheless, the trailer looks decent, though somewhat underwhelming. And James Franco as a brilliant scientist? That’ll take some getting used to. By the way, this is the third trailer that is using that siren musical beat, starting with “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, then copied by “Green Lantern”, and now, “Apes”. Is the same guy cutting all these big-budget trailers or what?
Set in present-day San Francisco, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES reveals the origins of a war that ultimately led to a global apocalypse – and to Earth becoming the Planet of the Apes. The Oscar-winning visual effects team that brought to life the worlds of Avatar and Lord of the Rings is taking on its most ambitious challenge, creating for the first time a non-human CGI character that delivers a dramatic performance with real emotion and intelligence.
James Franco, Tom Felton, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and Freida Pinto fights for our rights against evil ape king Andy Serkis on August 15, 2011.
