Rob Cohen Confirms xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

You can’t keep an extreme sports athlete turned reluctant secret agent down. Or can you? Well they tried, with a lame death scene using a Diesel stunt actor in order to pave the way for a Diesel-less sequel, “xXx: State of the Union”, with that short black guy who scowls a lot. Now the original director of the original movie is returning to the franchise with the original star in “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage”, and they’re hoping to bring back some of the original box office glory. Yup, Xander Cage apparently didn’t get blown up in a building after trying to get into some skank’s pants like we were led to believe. I blame it on the Germans.

Says Rob Cohen to some site name Omelete via Collider:

“Yes, they’re doing it with me and producer Joe Roth. We made the deal recently, it’s named xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. We met the writers yesterday and we’re trying to get into production by late spring, to have it out for the summer of 2010.”

He didn’t mention Diesel by name, but it’s been crystal clear by now that Diesel wants to come back in one of the first roles that made him a big time movie star. Basically, this thing is happening because everyone who made it a hit in the first place wants to do it again. Now if only they’d ask the fans if they wanted one, too…
