Rob Zombie to Remake ’80s Cult Horror CHUD

Remember a while back when Rob Zombie signed a multi-picture deal with Dimensions Film, but he seem to be hinting that he might not be touching the horror genre again to fulfill that contract? Well that was then, and now comes news that Zombie is officially remaking the ’80s cult horror classic “C.H.U.D”, an acronym for “Cannibalistic Human Underground Dweller”. No, really. It’s even in the posters. The news comes from the fiends over at Dread Central, who got the confirmation from Zombie himself. This is yet another classic that, while I’m familiar with, I haven’t actually seen in its entirety, but I’m willing to bet the overwhelming reaction from the horror fanbase will be negative. Aren’t they always when it comes to remakes?

The premise of the 1984 original goes something like this:

A rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photo journalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.

I’m guessing Rob Zombie will make his version, uglier, more vile, and more disgusting. Is that even possible? We’ll just have to see.
