As you’ll recall, someone got the bright idea to do an “Expendables” movie, but with an all-female cast. At first I thought it was someone’s idea of a joke, but turns out, it’s an actual movie, even though they went the cheesy route and have officially called it “The ExpendaBelles” (unless, of course, they end up calling it something else later on).
The movie is definitely moving forward, with “Expendables” producer/star Sylvester Stallone and company now setting Robert Luketic (“21” and “Killers”) to direct.
So, what’s the storyline? Glad you asked. Deadline says:
When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day.
That’s, uh, quite a storyline there. And this is an honest to goodness real movie, right? Yes. (I think.)
At the moment, apparently the producers are looking at Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich to star in the movie. Jovovich, I think, has been linked to the film before, but I don’t think there’s a chance in hell Streep is going anywhere near this, so I’m not even sure why they brought her name up.
In any case, “The ExpendaBelles” is definitely happening. God help us.
