Robert Rodriguez May Be Out As Deadpool Director

It looks like Robert Rodriguez and his bandana may not direct “Deadpool” due to scheduling conflicts. Between hyping “Machete” and directing another installment of the “Spy Kids” franchise (something I’m far too excited about), the timing doesn’t look like it is going to work out.

Rodriguez told Deadline that

he has read the “Deadpool” script and likes it, but his own obligations promoting “Machete” and then directing “Spy Kids 4” has made his participation tenuous. “They are trying to make a certain small window that’s going to be tough because of ‘Spy Kids’ . . . If they push it back, it would be a lot better for me.”

Star Ryan Reynolds is also busy, and has signed on to appear in “Safe House” with Denzel Washington. That film is scheduled to begin shooting early next year, which just so happens to be when Fox wanted to start filming “Deadpool”. If the title character is unavailable, I imagine the studio will most likely have to delay the start of production.

Delay it so Rodriguez can direct. Rodriguez and reynolds together would rock this project!!!

If the big name star and the big name director can’t do it, they should definitely push it back. I’m sure Fox could find other people to do it, but they shouldn’t. They should wait for good people who have a passion for the project, and who would do it right. The world doesn’t need another mediocre movie based on a good comic.

You hit the nail on thE head by metioning passionate and fitting the film.

A few factors here, one being is that WB is trying to tie Ryan Reynolds up with GL sequels back to back. Two is that with Fox trying to mash up all these movies all at once for 2012 and pushing them out as uber-humanly possible. They won’t deliver quality films that way and that’s what Robert Rodriguez doesn’t want to be a part of. Besides the fact that “Spy Kids” is his baby and he has total control and can do what ever he wants with it.On the other hand don’t think that he isn’t aware of what’s going on with X-MFC and FF with all of this crazy casting and stories going on. Robert Rodriguez will want full control and I can guarantee you that Fox will promise him whatever he wants so long as they get him locked in,once he’s locked,Fox will start interfering like they’re doing to Matthew Vaughn. If I was Robert Rodriguez I’d tell Fox to wait or get nothing from me AND I want a contract stating that I will have full control, that Fox will not interfere and I can work directly with Marvel Studios.

Yopur hatred of Fox is well documented here. LoL. But yeah your last sentence SHOULD be what Rodriguez does, and if Marvel wants Fox to do right by this then they need to flex some of that Mouse Money and put the screws to Fox and be like “Don’t mess this up!!!”
