Robert Schwentke Officially Boards R.I.P.D.

Universal has made it official: “Red’s” Robert Schwentke (left) will direct their Ryan Reynolds-fronted horror/comic book movie “R.I.P.D.” for them.

Based on a Dark Horse comic by Peter Lenkov, “R.I.P.D.” tells the story of a police department for the dead, with Reynolds already onboard as one of two partners who patrol the underworld — a recently deceased cop and one that’s been dead for hundreds of years.

I think you can pretty much guess which role Reynolds will be playing there.

Schwentke, fresh off “Red”, another movie based on a comic book, will direct from a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the same duo currently writing a live-action version of “The Boys” for Sony.

Scott Bernstein and Maradith Frenkel, along with Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson, are producing.
