It would appear that the best thing to ever happen to Joe Wilson was that his CIA agent wife got outed by Dick Cheney and company, because come hell or high water, Wilson and wife Valerie Plame are gonna ride this free lunch to the cliff and back. Warner Bros. already has a movie based on Plame’s outing gearing up, but it would appear the Yari Film Group will beat them to it, with a “parallel story” (i.e. it’s based on, but it won’t use the names) about a D.C.-based female newspaper reporter who outs a CIA agent and is imprisoned for refusing to reveal her source, says Variety.

The expected cast (negotiations are under way) include Kate Beckinsale as one seriously hot journalist, Matt Dillon as the prosecutor, Vera Farmiga as the CIA agent, Edie Falco as the editor of the newspaper that published the story, and Alan Alda as the attorney who tries to free the reporter from jail.

“Nothing but the Truth” parallels the case of Valerie Plame, whose status as a CIA agent was exposed in the media after her husband, Ambassador Joe Wilson, wrote a New York Times op-ed piece charging the Bush administration with manipulating intelligence to justify the invasion of Iraq.

Former New York Times reporter Judith Miller went to jail to protect her sources, and Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted of perjury, making false statements to federal investigators and obstruction of justice. President Bush commuted his 30-month jail sentence.

Meanwhile, over at the Warner Bros. side of things, Jez and John Butterworth are writing, and Akiva Goldsman and Jerry and Janet Zucker are producing. Lurie’s “Nothing but the Truth” is expected to see the light of day first.

The Warner Bros. version is supposedly going to tell the story from Plame and Wilson’s POV. Maybe finally we’ll now know what kind of danger Plame was in after her name was leaked. Like, did the pizza boy try to poison her, and did her gardener purposely leave her grass uncut 2 inches too high as a result of her identity being revealed? High tension, baby!
