Rodriguez Says Barbarella Remake is Dead Like Jed Holding a Keg

Stick a fork in her, she’s done, Jim. That’s coming from Robert Rodriguez himself in regards to his much-ballyhooed remake of “Barbarella”, which was set to star his fiance Rose McGowan. (They are still engaged, right? I can’t keep track of these crazy kids.) Rodriguez tells MTV that after Universal balked at his $80 million-plus price tag for the remake, he got a $75 million dollar offer from a German company to make the sci-fi flick, but the catch was he had to go to Germany for production and post. Rodriguez has now resigned himself to never getting the film made.

Bemoans the Rodster to MTV:

“It was a real bummer,” he admitted. “We had all this artwork and screen tests of what it would look like. It was a really cool, R-rated, sexy—almost like that [1981 animated] movie, ‘Heavy Metal’—version of a ‘Star Wars’ movie. Something that no one ever could get to see. It was gonna be really great.”

And so, “Barbarella” is now dead, and Rodriguez will move on to, in all likelihood, “Predators”, which has already been set for a 2010 release.

Below: Is that a gun in your hand or are you just happy to see me? Oh wait, that doesn’t work with a chick…

Yay! SooooOOoo glad to hear that Barbarella isn’t going to be remade! WHAT? were they thinkin’ anyway? It was cult-kitsch to begin with, leave well enough alone. Besides, there isn’t one woman out there that could top Jane Fonda’s look as Barbarella- nope, not a one.
