Rodriguez Still Talking Sin City 2, Not Doing a Whole Lot

I’ve never seen a more enthusiastic filmmaker than Robert Rodriguez. All you need to know about this guy is that he loves making films, which also means he loves talking about making films, even when he’s not, you know, anywhere near to actually making them. Is he making “Predator”? Maybe. Maybe not. Is he making “Barbarella”? Nope, not gonna happen. What about “Nervecrackers”? Yeah, that’s still on the table. Possibly. And there’s that “Machete” movie. “Red Sonja”?

Then what about — well, look, over the years since “Sin City”, it seems like Rodriguez has been attached to more movies than Ridley Scott, but unlike Scott, he never seems to end up doing any of them (aside from the ill-received “Grind House”). But hey, don’t let that stop you from hearing what The Rodman has to say about “Sin City 2”.

The Rod was out promoting the Blu Ray release of “Sin City” (the first one), when IGN asked him about the progress of “Sin City 2”. Here’s what he had to say:

“I actually had a phone call with some of the players in it today, but I was on a plane so I missed it,” he said. “So next week we’re going to talk about it some more and get a timing on when we’d be doing it. But there’s a lot of people who are interested in it. … We are definitely going to do that one.

Sounds reasonably … airtight. So what’s gonna be the story? “A Dame To Kill For”, right? Yes, and more, apparently:

“There’s a lot of stories,” Rodriguez said. “That was sort of the approach I took to it. That’s why there’s three stories in the [first] movie, because I thought, ‘I love this material, but gosh, what happens if it’s not successful and I don’t get to make a part two and part three. I still want to see “The Big Fat Kill” and “That Yellow Bastard.”‘ So I wanted to put them all in one movie so I could at least get some of these stories out of my system. But there’s still so many books and so many stories to do.”

Told ya, guy’s very ambitious when it comes to filmmaking. You just wishes he would have more focus and try to get one done and move on to the other, instead of trying to do them all at once. Oh well, he says “Sin City 2” is coming. We should take his word for it. Mostly.

Below: “Rod, Rod, you gotta focus, man. See that? That’s a pile of scripts you’ve got stacked up. Now choose one. But only one!”
