According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Roger Avary and producer Samuel Hadida intend to take another stab at the “Silent Hill” franchise, which should begin filming as soon as Davis Films finishes production of the upcoming Milla Jovovich vehicle “Resident Evil 4.” As a fan of both the video game series and the film adaptation, I’m fairly excited about the prospect of a sequel, though I’m hoping “Brotherhood of the Wolf” mastermind Christophe Gans returns to place his insanely eerie style on this grossly underrated franchise. After all, it was his knack for creepy visuals and moody atmosphere that made the film a success, regardless of what other genre-related websites would have you believe. If Gans decides to skip the flick, there’s always the director’s forthcoming comic book movie “Fantomas” to look forward to.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
On a related note, “Silent Hill: Homecoming” for the Xbox 360 gave me a tremendous headache, and generated levels of frustration in this seasoned gamer the likes of which I’ve never experienced before. Will I ever have a “Silent Hill” experience that is greater than, or at least equal to, “Silent Hill 2?” I have my doubts.
