Romero’s Dawn of the Dead is Back in 3D — and a Sequel?
Dawn of the Dead 2 (2010) Movie, Dawn of the Dead 3D (2009) Movie, Featured, Horror Movie News — By Nix on May 15, 2008 |
The horror fiends over at Fangoria has a couple of very interesting news tidbits concerning George Romero’s original “Dawn of the Dead” movie. The news comes from the mouth of producer Richard Rubinstein, who informs them that they’re planning a re-release of Romero’s original 1979 “Dawn of the Dead” — in 3-D! Yes, 3-D. They say converting the movie to the new format will be done in 2009. And oh yeah — Rubinstein also drops the shocker that they’re planning a direct sequel to “Dawn of the Dead” — no, not the Zack Snyder remake, but the original.
Here’s Fangoria with the bits and chunks:
Rubinstein, the man responsible for producing many of Romero’s films as well as the 2004 DAWN remake, is planning to rerelease the 1979 zombie epic in true 3-D! In-Three, Inc. of Agoura Hill, CA will be responsible for the “dimensionalization” process.
…Rubinstein also has plans to create a direct sequel to the original DAWN (!)…
Wow. A sequel to the original “Dawn of the Dead”? I’m a bit surprised to hear that. Now I wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of the 2004 Snyder remake, but over the years, I’ve come to appreciate it as a separate movie entirely from Romero’s “Dead” films, and you know what, it ain’t all bad. What I’m saying is, why not just do a sequel to Snyder’s “Dead” instead of going back to Romero’s version?
Or maybe Rubinstein was talking about a sequel to the new version and not the old one, and Fangoria just got it wrong? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

Now, that is awesome on both fronts. I felt “Land of the Dead” fell short in some ways, so maybe a direct sequel to “Dawn” will be great.
Dawn of the Dead (1978) is without a doubt my ALL TIME fave movie. I love everything about it from the in story survival tactics to the fly by night film production to the bright red blood.
To see it 3D would be an event to say the least. However I’ll believe it when I see it. And a sequal makes no sense on any level-whatsoever.
I would like to find a filming school to make movies just like george I would like to meet george in person . I’m a big fan of his
Filming school? Dude, go buy a camcorder and start shooting! See channel101.com or even youtube.
geogre is always at the chiller theatre conevtons across the us
The best zombie movie ever made is DAWN of the DEAD! I went to see it when it first came out and I haven’t stopped talking about it since. In fact, I just finished watching it on DVD. My family thinks I’m crazy for liking such a movie. But I think its original, scary, and funny. I’m thrilled that they’re planning on rereleasing it in 3D. I plan to take my 19 year old daughter when it comes out. She also thinks I’m crazy, but I plan on sharing my favorite movie with her. I can’t wait!!

Uhhh there already is a sequel to Dawn of the Dead…It’s called Day of the Dead and it came out 24 years ago lmao. Richard Rubinstein is an idiot. He’s a producer, not a filmmaker. That means he has a lot of money to get films made and nothing more. I would really love to see a 3D release of the original Dawn of the Dead but the sequel thing sounds dumb. I’m sure it just means he’ll sell the rights over to the Dudelsons and allow them to make a low budget craptastic sequel like they did with Day of the Dead 2: Contagium and Creepshow 3.
totally agree 3d version would b cool but a sequal? really! come on already bn done…..im all for zombie movies an old 1s especially but give me somethn to watch thn low budget crap….dawn of the dead still aint got shit on resident evil!

I absolutely loathe the 2004 “Dawn Of The Dead”. Just like many other films, it starts off OK but rapidly disintegrates into an annoying, go-nowhere-fast bomb. I hope the new sequel will continue where the original left off. Could be kind of cool if the two survivors are included in the story- thirty years on.
