Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow Arriving on Blu-ray for the First Time

Hey, remember Ron Howard’s 1988 film “Willow”? I sure do. In fact, “Willow” was one of the very first fantasy films I ever saw on the big screen, and it made quite the impression. If you’re a fan, then you’re in luck, because Lucasfilm and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment are set to release the movie on Blu-ray for the very first time on March 12th, 2013.

Check out a new trailer for the remastered Blu-ray below.

Journey to the far corners of your imagination with Willow, for the first time ever on Blu-ray! Now fully digitally restored, this release features a dazzling array of extras, including new, never-before-seen exclusive content. From legendary filmmakers George Lucas and Ron Howard comes a timeless fantasy tale in which heroes comes in all sizes…and adventure is the greatest magic of all. When young Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) finds an abandoned baby girl, he learns she is destined to end the reign of the wicked Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh). In order to protect the child, Willow must team up with a rogue swordsman (Val Kilmer) and overcome the forces of darkness in the ultimate battle of good versus evil!

Starring Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Jean Marsh, and Joanne Whalley, who would go on to marry her co-star Val Kilmer. Lucky dog. (They got divorced 8 years later.)

Special features on the Blu-ray are pretty light. This sounds like one of those “buy it for the movie and the re-mastered Blu-ray format” type of deals.
