If Frank Miller has his way, Rosario Dawson will be playing Martha Washington in a live-action movie version of the comic scribe’s comic book series. That’s according to “Martha Washington” co-creator Dave Gibbons, who tells the blokes at Digital Spy that Frank Miller told him that if they ever got a “Martha Washington” movie up and running, he’d pick Dawson for his leading lady. Of course, that’s a pretty big “if” there, Dave.
So who is Martha Washington? She’s a black female character created by Miller and Gibbons in 1990, and who starred in two limited series comic book from Dark Horse Comics, before returning in various one-shot books, with the last one titled “Martha Washington Dies” in 2007. The character was a normal girl who ended up becoming a legend during various wars and battles between various factions of a divided future America.
Obviously a “Martha Washington” movie would be nice, but it’s nowhere near being ready for the screen, especially in light of Miller’s recent “The Spirit”, which opened and fell harder than co-star Scarlett Johansson’s singing career. Of course, Miller has other aces up his sleeve — a “300” prequel and “Sin City” sequel would resurrect his flailing Hollywood career faster than you can say, “What Spirit bomb?”
But Rosario Dawson as Martha Washington? I could think of worst choices.
Below: Martha don’t play that, kiddies.
