Once upon a time, Rose McGowan was supposed to star in a reboot of “Red Sonja” with Robert Rodriguez producing. For a while there, the film was moving along nicely, with teaser posters presented at film shindigs and what have you to hype it up. That was back when things were good with the couple. The status of the reboot is now up in the air, with some rumors suggesting that it’s dead. Recently, McGowan made a stab at updating fans about the status of “Sonja” on Wednesday, tweeting this:
“Just this once i’ll address questions about Red Sonja&others;i was meant to do in ’08. Major personal &private;reasons I pulled out.Starting 2 want to work again. Sometimes real life fucking sucks. That’s all. God bless us survivors.”
On Thursday, she clarified herself:
“To clarify press reports: Red Sonja is delayed. I pulled out of doing it in ’09. Not permanently.Hopefully will follow Conan.”
So there you have it. McGowan is hoping to still make “Red Sonja”, but it would appear that might depend entirely on how the “Conan” reboot does. Marcus Nispel is shepherding that reboot as we speak, and is scheduled to hack its way into theaters in 2010.
I guess in a way, Sonja is still playing second fiddle to Conan. Not very, if you will, liberating for our gal warrior.
