It seems like anyone who is anyone is stripping in their movies nowadays. Lindsay Lohan, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, and now, Roselyn Sanchez. If you don’t know the name Roselyn Sanchez, she’s basically the movie version of Eva Longoria — Latin and very attractive — except, well, kind of less famous. She has been in “Rush Hour 2” (the undecover fed), and has been plying her trade on TV’s “Without a Trace” where, incidentally, she also had to go undercover as a stripper in one episode. Her latest is the Puerto Rican heavy “Yellow” (she’s Puerto Rican, FYI), which the guys at Roselyn Central have more information on.
Amaryllis Campos (Sanchez) is a young dancer from San Juan whose close relationship with her father Franco, himself once a great ballet star in New York City, drives her from her native Puerto Rico to Manhattan in order to fulfill her dreams. Living with a deceiving alcoholic wife, Carmen, and despairing of ever achieving greatness again, Franco takes his life. In order to honor her father’s memory, Amaryllis decides to resume her dancing and pursue fame and success in New York. She settles into an abandoned apartment and, with few job prospects available, takes a job dancing at a strip club. Her new stage name, Yellow. While in New York, she befriends an old man named Miles, a washed out poetry professor living in her building, and Christian (D.B. Sweeney), a young doctor, who falls for her and tries to help her out of her situation.
I’m just glad Sweeney is finally getting a role that doesn’t require him to act like a total asshole. I’ve always liked this guy, ever since his ill-fated TV show “Strange Luck”, and it’s always ticked me off that he’s been relegated to playing total assholes in every movie since.
Roselyn Sanchez gets “Yellow” June 22nd in limited release, but I’m guessing a DVD release will probably be your best chance to catch Roselyn Sanchez stripping. You’ll be able to do that when “Yellow” hits DVD July 31st.
