If anyone knows the status of the “Deadpool” movie, it would have to be the film’s would-be star Ryan Reynolds, right? Turns out, not so much. Speaking to Total Film while out promoting his “Men in Black”-ish film “R.I.P.D.” (also based on a comic book), Reynolds filled the fans in on where the “Deadpool” movie currently stands.
Short answer: he has no idea. Long answer, this:
That movie is alive and kicking, and then it’s dead as a doornail. Then it’s alive and kicking and then it’s dead… it’s like the worst relationship I’ve ever had!
I don’t know what that says about Reynolds’ dating life, but moving on.
As for the film itself, Reynolds confirms what we already know — that the film will have an irreverent vibe and fourth-wall breaking gags:
The character knows he’s a comic-book character, he knows he’s in a film, he knows who the executives are at the studio making the movie. In the current iteration of the script, Deadpool is aware of the Wolverine movie. He doesn’t say anything disparaging about it but he does at one point play with the Deadpool action figure with some curiosity.
He’s referring to the current script by “Zombieland” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Tim Miller has been attached to direct the film for some time now, but he’s also become attached to a bunch of other projects recently, so I’m guessing his people don’t think a “Deadpool” movie is happening anytime soon, either.
Until we do finally get a movie about the Merc with a Mouth, there’s always this from his first cinematic appearance, the much-derided (for good reason, alas) “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”:
