Ryan Reynolds Promises a Scarred, Comic Book Faithful Deadpool Movie

Comic Book Movie News, Deadpool Movie — By Nix on May 31, 2009

If Ryan Reynolds is to be believed, we won’t be seeing any of that Weapon XI nonsense that showed up at the end of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in its spin-off “Deadpool” film. Or at least that’s what I got from this brief interview with Reynolds, who while doing promo rounds for his comedy “The Proposal”, got asked questions about the upcoming “Deadpool” movie that was announced almost as soon as the first weekend box office receipts for “Wolverine” came up roses.

Reynolds tells Hitfix:

Well, I’m intimately involved with it. We’re just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it’s going to be just like the comic books. I’m gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that’s the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible.

And just to put a finer point on it, Reynolds said this to IGN about the movie’s ties to the “Wolverine” picture:

“Without saying too much, I can’t imagine that there’s gonna be any tie-in to the Wolverine movie at all.

…So many of the outlets that follow this character are curious what the elements will be, afraid that you won’t be disfigured, that you won’t wear the mask, and I laugh because there’s no way to do this without having the scarring, having the mask, having it all. And it can be done. It’s a no-brainer in that sense. You gotta have the character of Deadpool. You don’t want to just invent something new and call it Deadpool. “

You gotta figure that Reynolds’ involvement in the movie is of utmost importance. At this point, I doubt if anyone, especially the fans, will accept anyone else in the role except Reynolds, which is a good thing because it means he has pull in regards to the movie’s direction. That means if he’s got it in his head to make a comic book faithful Deadpool movie, it’s gonna happen.

Below: Deadpool sucks at kids parties.

HOORAAY!!!!! Damned skippy the comics are incredible. Nowhere else is a comic that random and yet that on point. It’s hilarious. Reynolds was born to play the character as evidenced in the fleeting 15 miutes he played Wade Wilson to a T in “Wolverine.” Can’t wait to see what they do for this. I hope they go with a leather like suit, by way of Daredevil and X-Men. Hell even Reynolds was taken aback byt theat interpretation. That interview he did with MTV he just looked awkward like he was doing his best not to just say “Yeah Fox F*cked up, but I’m still playing the character.”

i vote on taskmaster as villain. =P

  • Ryan reynolds is beast, i was like happy as hell when i figured he would play the role of deadpool(no homo), hes funny(watch “blade trinity” or “waiting” if you want good examples), Where i live most people are not willing to accept the fact reynolds will come back from the dead after getting decapitated by wolverine, but reading up on deadpools storyline, this isnt a problem at all, for his power really doesnt involve healing but if you pay closer attention, it involves regeneration :], for example when he had his heart ripped out by ajax. The only complication i see with this movie is the fact deadpool will need a villian to go against, after reynolds recent role as deadpool in the xmen origins movie, its obvious to us fans that dead pool was overpowered and merely got decapitated simply because he was being controlled and wolverine got lucky many times.

So if ryan reynolds ever reads this, or the director of the movie, the problems
i would ask you to focus on as a extreme fan of deadpool, the most is

1:Father/Son Issue- Its completely obsurd how deadpool and the military fat guy were father and son :P and he controls him and continues to call him weapon 0
    “it-is-laaaaame”

2:The Metal skeletal structure- Deadpool got that alluminum skeleton crap wolverine got :P “what????” i was disappointed with this issue extremely, because
it creates a deadpool most of us original fans are unfamiliar with and arent so willing to accept :O deadpool shouldnt really have swords coming out from between his knuckles, i mean, its cool and all, but comon :P he was a lot cooler spinning the blades in his hands and slicing bullets in half and stuff :O

3:Transportation-When deadpool recieved that transportation ability from John Wraith in the xmen origins movie it made him pretty much untouchable and more of a threat that any villian i can usually think of can pose :P , deadpool was alittle too annoying to deal with(even though he was cool) if i were in someone who was fighting him’s shoes. I mean its cool and all but, hes pretty much like a god with all of these abilities, and if that stupid dad wasnt controlling him, he would’ve killed wolverine and sabertooth with ease :P

4:His suit-Yea,Yea you guys already thought about this i know but :P , just making sure, next time…make him wear his suit as well plz :P

5:villian-I believe i covered this above but i dont think itll be a problem if you choose a extremely absurdly powerful villian for deadpool, i mean, deadpool after that xmen origins movie seems to be alittle whack, and this is all because he has john wraiths ability, and as well as cyclops :O! CYCLOPS!? LAAAAAME!!!!!

6:Dont scar up his face: We know you guys want to dedicate the movie solely to deadpool and his extreme details, but if you scar up his face too bad, many fans wont want to consider him a favorite cause hes so ugly :O i believe you should just put a phew scars on reynolds cheeck and eye :O make him look cool, not horrid :)

7:Just random- i know this is random but, i request uhm, you bring wolverine into the movie for a bit :P just a bit, because it’ll be weird if deadpool just awakes from death then doesnt pursue wolverine for explanation(but wolverine wont know cause he lost his memory :D ) just to fill fans up :O

  • Laaame! “iAREren” taskmaster f***ing sucks and deadpool would kill him in a instant :O i believe it would make sense for ajax to be in the beginning to experiment on deadpool, after the xmen origins confrontation and the main badguy of the movie should be “Black Swan :O”

  • Villians should range from the movie in this order

    Ajax,
    weapon x(regain assassins status)
    Four winds crime family
    Black swan(deadpool loses)
    Joins taskmaster & constrictor
Fights nijo and black swan final time
-and the spinoff movie should end with the destruction
of black swans castle and the loss of and mix-up of their memories-

The movie should first take place a phew months after the xmen origins confrontation and consist of deadpool in the testing facility :P with ajax.
Deadpool has some flashbacks :O of his love life and how he regained his
health from cancer because of his abilities :O deadpool should then key
to escaping the facility and killing ajax, pursuing deadpool now, the goverment
refuses to accept deadpool back into programs such as weapon x, which was also
ended at the end of xmen origins so with nowhere to run deadpool is recruited by the criminal mastermind “WIZARD” and is partnered up with taskmaster and constrictor :P and then ordered to kill the “Four Winds” for an assassination job and while pursuing the four winds “The black swan” kills them and thus deadpool enters the scene and takes credit(as mentioned in storyline) after being beaten senseless by “black swan” deadpool has more flashbacks of his former life and is helped by taskmaster and constrictor & wizard, deadpool heads over to black swans castle for payback for beating the living hell out of him and manipulating his mind (black swan can cause deadpools flashbacks with his mutant ability) and then deadpool confronts nijo(black swans #1 assistant) and nijo is killed by black swan(as said in storyline because black swan wants to fight deadpool one on one) where deadpool defeats him but doesnt kill him, then black swans castle blows up because of the bombs deadpool took with him and causes them to dissappear and lose their memories etc :P didnt feel like typing more detail on the ending

Okay okay okay, ADAPTATION! This is his first movie and you guys are going overboard. Greg Deadpool wasn’t his son. Called him “son” as a sign of authority the way old men call young boys “son.” Stryker’s kid was the one with the two colored eyes frozen in ice. ANd are you serious about not scaring his face? You’re an extreme fan and yet you don’t want one of the things that makes him Deadpool? WHAT? The scarred face and body are part of the cancer that has gone out of control due to his healing factor, not to mention the FANS WANT HIM SCARRED!!!!!And he uses a teleportation device in his buckle in the comics. It goes on the fritz alot but hey he has it, but it’s not his power. Taskmaster would make a great villain. They’ve fought before and YES DEadpool won but it was still a great fight. I think Ajax is a great place to start too, and I’m hoping they just ignore “Wolverine” and start fresh, with him already established, if not they can have someone find him shortly after “Wolverine” and tak him to the Hospice for experimenting to see what went wrong. Then have Ajax show up, kick his ass, and then we get the flashback to the Hospice, and Killebrew. Then back to the present for the show down with Ajax again. Or do an adaptation of the “Circle Chase” story adn introduce some background and supporting characters like Kane(Weapon X 2), Copycat, Weasal, etc. You could even substitute Slayback for Taskmaster and have someone have hired Tasky to find the Will or whatever…okay now I gotta go put this down on paper to talk about for my podcast.

  • iAREren says:

to each his own, i guess. lol. i just like taskmaster.

    either way, bottom line:

if it’s a comic-faithfhful Deadpool movie, and they fix this bastard Mortal Kombat hybrid creature… thing, i think it’d be awesome.

oh, lastly, and most importantly, give him back his mouth; he can’t be the “merc with a mouth” without it.

  • Dangin Slick says:

The movie will be great as long as they KEEP WOLVERINE OUT OF IT!! They don’t need to throw anything in there that reminds the hardcore fans of that dreadful, pathetic, sorry excuse for a comic book movie that was X-Men Origins. Mask? Yes! Scarred? Hell Yes!! Mouth? Of Course!(He couldn’t be The Merc With A Mouth without it.) Villian? Doesn’t really matter…Hey, come on…It’s a Deadpool movie…We’ve been waiting years for this. The only thing that could ruin this is if the people who did the “Origins” movie got their hands on this one also.

    • Dedpool378 says:

YUP!!!! I still think Taskmaster is my personal favorite, though he’s more of a rival than a villain but his abilities would be great to play off. Ajax is a definite if we’re doing an (god I hate to evenuse the word when talking Deadpool) origin flick. But AH well, can’t wait.

  • Kagirion says:

Yet another movie made thats original content is adored by loyal fans that holywood could screw up, but if those are Reynolds words, then perhaps it wont suck.
He should be SCARRED AS FARK! dammut!

    also, luls; Scientology adds?

  • fumanchu says:

i cant wait for more info on this. x-men origins really screwed things up for the marvel universe. the idea of just simply creating a super mutant is pretty lame – if it was such a simple process, what is the point of having different characters? and deadpool was horrible – he had every mutants powers and no mouth? they really have their work cut out on the spinoff (unless its timeline is before the origins movie).

cant wait, if they had chosen someone else other than reynolds, i dont think it would be as interesting. should be good, just dont get hood or his crew involved.
