Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool Spin-Off Movie
Comic Book Movie News, X-Men Origins: Deadpool Movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Movie — By Nix on March 16, 2009
“X-Men Origins: Deadpool”? Or maybe just “Deadpool: The Movie”? Either way, comic book geeks everywhere are waiting for Ryan Reynolds to get his own comic book movie. If not The Flash (which is looking very unlikely at this point), then the next best thing is the merc with the mouth, Deadpool, a character Reynolds will be playing in the upcoming “Wolverine” movie. So what about that spin-off movie, Ryan?
The boys at Latino Review got to talk with Ryan Reynolds about a possible “Deadpool” movie during the junket for “Adventureland”, in which Reynolds co-stars, and disappointingly, doesn’t get to slice anyone’s head off with a sword in:
Ya, I love the character. I’ve always loved the character. I remember reading one of the Deadpool comic books, and somebody asked Deadpool what he looks like. And he said he looks like a cross between a Shar-Pei and Ryan Reynolds. And I was like, I really, really wanna play this guy at some point. I thought it was pretty cool. It’s a guy that knows he’s in a comic book. How hard is it to shoot that properly? That’s not something they put in Wolverine nor would it belong in that universe.
There are also more stuff from the “Wolverine” movie, most of which we’ve already spoiled for you here regarding what happens to Reynolds’ Deadpool character.
Which leads me to this: if they do end up with a spin-off movie for Reynolds as Deadpool, it will probably have to be a prequel, unless they want to completely erase what happens at the end of “Wolverine”. That is, if the spoilers we got were true and not made up. Then again, they could just go the “Elektra” route, and sort of just ignore the “Wolverine” movie…
Below: Seriously, there should be a law against looking this perfect.

Saw the movie today. You’ll notice that when Weapon XI is created one of the scientists warns striker that the process isn’t complete. Perhaps the powers don’t stay? As for the blades in his arms…that’s a different story. Maybe he gets them removed?
I dont know if anyone else noticed it but when ehh emmm (spoiler) when deadpool gets his head cut off and it begins to fall down the nuclear plant that the lasers shoooting out of his eyes are turning on and off so maybe thats how he loses his cyclops power and mostly keeps everything else and Ryan Reynolds is kickass the movie was kickass to
so yeah Deadpool movie
They really screwed Deadpool up in this. Now, if what someone said above is true and he could regenerate his body from his head, then yes, the retarded swords that came out of his arms would be gone. Maybe he took them out of his arms, and made new swords from them?
But here is something that you have forgotten, while Wilson’s healing factor might be stronger than Wolverines, or Sabertooth, Deadpool has a nasty bout of cancer. His healing factor is CONSTANTLY working to patch up his skin. This makes him slightly weaker, because not only does he have to regenerate what injuries he takes in battle, but the cancer as well. Neither of the other two have to constantly use that ability as he does.
All in all, I though they did him decently in the first half of the flick. As long as they get him as close to the comic as possible for another movie, Ill be all for it.
I think i read somewhere in one the last Thunderbolts issues that deadpool’s cancer the only thing is that keeps his healing factor in check …they (Osborn I think) wanted to shoot him with an anti-cancer bullet which would result in his healing factor working so fast it would make him dissolve or something…
Damn, those Marvel-authors have some weird ideas ^^
posted this earlier thought it would fit here nicely. Bottom line though is that yes they did some questionable things but this is the world of Comics baby. You can fix anything with only the thinnest veneer of plausability

Thank you all you omniscient posters So, while trying not to spoil anything for those that didn’t see the movie yet, this suddenly controversial treatment of one of the best characters IMHO in Marvel Universe did upset me when I saw the movie last night as it caught me off guard. I didn’t read any of these postings about the trailer or spoilers or anything until today. But like I said it caught me off guard and I’ve had time to think it through to the point where I believe they can redeem the character of Deadpool/Wade Wilson. Slight spoiler here, at the end several things combine to make me hopeful. There is a line saying the bonding process on Weapon XI isn’t complete so hopefully he’ll lose the blades and presumably the adamantium lacing? Also, he has a shall we say severe injury at the end that HOPEFULLY will get rid of the stupidest addition to his powers they ever could have done, you know optic blasts? Shees! The teleporting can stay as Deadpool uses devices if I’m not mistaken for the same effect quite often yes? I mean hell Spidey doesn’t even have webshooters in the movies And finally, the no mouth thing lol I sorta laughed at that and if ya stay through the credits you’re rewarded a bit to resolve that issue. So, I am now theraputiclly vented and you may all have fun with this yourselves. THX, and remember it’s always Five O’clock somwhere, so DRINK UP!!!
that is why wade wilson went to weapon X as a last resort for his cancer the regen power took care of the cancer
The movie needs to take place after the Wolverine flick. They need to put him in the full body suit that covers everything. Remember that Wade is self-concious about his scars, hence, the suit. Write out the optic blasts, have him remove the swords and cut open his mouth and boom, you got Deadpool. The teleporting, healing factor needs to stay. Those are his powers and they need to keep them alomg with his swords. It’s not that difficult, Hollywood.
I will say that when i watched all of the trailers put out prior to watching the movie i was completely pissed.
Wade was demolished in a sense. i mean yeah he was a pretty bad ass individual with the whole optic blasting, teleporting, and ass whooping of logan and victor but on the real they had WAY WAY WAY to many characters in this movie.. i mean if they wouldn’t have just pushed to get the film out and shot something with titanic length it would have been a bit more worth it.. i mean Wade only had what 5 minutes of on screen time..
i think if Deadpool was to regenerate he would just reattach his head… i think he would remove the “installed” blades.. and i know one of the posts said something about a spark.. so maybe that was the control ship they had installed and maybe with its hopefully epic failure Wade will loose the optic blasting and maybe even ultimately the teleporting ability.. i think he should have to revert back to gadgetry and tools(ie. teleportation device)
i haven’t much else to say other than that wolverine was a hot mess and a waste of my money..
O.k all of this talk about deadpools healing factor, being stronger then Logan’s make no seance.Logan has been ripped in half and crawled up to fix himself.Logan has the strongest healing factor. If deadpool had the stronger he would not scare but he does.nuff said! Also who cares that dead pool was in the movie just make a new movie and change the time line or do what the x-men movies did and make up your own new story that does not fallow the comic story lines. No one relay cares how or when they make it just make and have it be good! Also as a character Logan is way better Deadpool is just a slap together character to make new comics.Honestly they talk other powers and make a new mutant lol.
Are you serious? I’m a Wolvie fan but to say Deadpool is a throwaway character is a bit much. Throw away characters don’t grow in popularity to the point where they receive ongoing series, AND mini-series, AND MAJOR crossovers in other comics AND show up in videogames, animated movie etc. The character has been around almost 20 years, first appeared in New Mutants 98 in 1991. He wasn’t just slapped together. People aren’t so much mad as he’s in the movie as he’s been butchered. It’d be like making a Batman movie where he flies, and melds into shadows. Cool? Yes. Batman? No! What makes Wolvie so resisitant isn’t just the healing factor it’s the adamantium skeleton. By rights he isn’t supposed to be able to be ripped apart. But hey’s its the writers/and artist interpretations. Anyway long story short I’m goin with Tad and Jaxon and hope if we get a spin-off (which I doubt because of the little screen time speaking he did) we get a true to comics Deadpool.
Oh and even Reynolds was disapointed with what they did to Deadpool. Checkout an interview he did over at superherohype.com or comingsoon.net
origins didn’t even do justice to wolverine himself
i mean jackman was a seriously shitty actor in this film.. i liked X men and X2 where he had less lines and they were quick quips.. thats wolverine not mr. chatty emotionally distraught bitch they made him out to be.. i mean when he got pissed off i thought he was gonna cry.. it was never the teeth grinding anger i know from the comics.
But thats not ALL Logan is. YEs he’s tough, yes he’s a bad ass. But this was and still is the one thing in comics that fucked him up so bad he WAS emotional. Granted that lead right into a berserker frenzy but still. I will agree they softened him up too much though. But now he’s gonna go through 15 years of solitude and trying to figure out who he is and that alone will bring the anger out. Nothing more flustrating than not remembering where you put your keys, can you imagine that feeling about your life. *SPOILER ALERT* If you haven’t seen the after credits sequences leave now or forever hold you piece……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..Still here? Cool Not even that extra scene at the end makes up for what they did to Deadpool, though I hope he does get a spinnoff, with Weasal, and maybe even T-Ray.
I was so upset when Logan didn’t kill everyone in that room after he jumped out of that tank. I definitely felt like they patched this movie together. They made Silverfox and Emma Frost sisters. WTF? How is a native american and an blonde hair blue eyed European sisters? I mean, honestly. My only consolation in this flick was finally seeing Gambit although he didn’t have nearly as much screen time as I had hoped. They butchered Deadpool and added too many unecessary elements i.e. mutants not relevant to the Wolverine origin, Heather Hudson as an old woman and then being murdered by Agent Zero, and the total exclusion of Alpha Flight. I pray the sequel that takes place in Japan and possibly Madripoor is done with a little more attention to detail.
Alpha flight woulda been too much. Most people have no clue who they are and woulda been like wtf? I agree wholeheartedly bout him not killing everyone or at least anyone in his way, at Weapon X. Oh and Emma isn’t European, she’s like Frasier and Niles Crane…stuck up. The accent is fake, she from a wealthy Boston family. The accent just makes her cool, and sometimes cold. Lol. Yeah them being sisters was like, I’m sorry what now?
I think we’ll definately get a spin off. I just hope they CORRECT this godawful DP-esque monstrosity so that it never happens again. It wouldn’t be tremendously hard to realign the character with (most) of his true background.
You figure, if he regenerates his body from the head like he does in the comics, you can nix the adamantium. Have all the other “Kewl Powers” wear off because the experiment was incomplete. The healing factor restores his body and then goes into remission so it can reactivate in the “hospice” like it did in the books.
Basically, you can start him where he should be and call the fight with Creed/Logan as the reason he washed out of Weapon X program.
And hey, falling down a nuclear reactor would give anyone cancer…
He regenerated from just a head? I’ve seen him get it put back on…just recently actually, but not grow a new body from just a head. But yeah i like where you’re going except that’d be ANOTHER origin story. Lets just go with Weapon X fucked him up but didn’t finish the job, the reactor gave him cancer but nixed the other powers except for the healing factor which was the FIRST power he received.
He actually only fell into the cooling tower…no radiation there, but it doesn’t seem like a huge leap of logic that he could get cancer that way.
Sure he can regenerate from just a head, in the comics he did the same, only from just a hand =P
WHen did he do that? I remember him regenerating lots but never just from a hand. It would seem to me he’d need at least a brain to function that much. I know his healing factor broke down once and he couldn’t heal for a bit til he got the Hulk’s blood. Is this after the Agent of Weapon X, Funeral for a Freak storyline. After Thanos curses him with eternal life…and is that even still in effect now that Thanos is dead and finaly with Death?
just a thought but what if his healing powers eventually reject the animantium (or however you spell it) in his body? and i agree with everyone when they talk about deadpool being experimented on and possibly being striped of his laser vision.
