Grant Morrison is apparently such a famous comic book writer, that he even has an entire convention focused entirely on him. That’s, uh, pretty popular, I guess. Unless, of course, he decided one day to come up with the convention all by himself. In which case, that’s kinda vain. But I digress. Morrison has a new comic book called “Happy!”, and he’s teamed up with former rapper turned director RZA to develop it into a feature film. RZA, who is coming off “The Man with the Iron Fists”, will direct, while Morrison himself will write the script.
So what’s “Happy!” all about? Given the title, it should be happy, right? But this is a comic book, and as we all know, happy comic books don’t really sell. Thus:
Happy! centers on Nick Sax, a scummy corrupt ex-cop and hit man. After a hit goes bad and Sax is left gravely injured, he is suddenly able to see Happy, a cheerful little blue horse who won’t give in to adversity, no matter what unpleasant obstacles are in the way. Days before Christmas, Sax teams up with the saccharine horse to save the life of a troubled kid and maybe find redemption amid the squalor of his city.
Wow. That’s, uh, yeah.
The comic, which just debuted last month from Image Comics, features artwork by Darick Robertson. Reginald Hudlin, who recently produced RZA buddy Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”, will do similar honors on “Happy!”.
The idea is to develop the property and find it a home with a studio.
