Sacha Cohen’s Bruno Gets Release Date

Board up your windows and hide the cats, my fellow Americans, because Sacha Cohen is back with a new character to make fun of you and convince you what a shitty person you are; this time his name is Bruno, and just like Borat, he’s sure to make you very uncomfortable in an effort to make you laugh — or laugh at you. Either/or. The movie “Bruno” will center around the character Bruno, a supposedly faux fashionista who originated from Cohen’s one-time HBO series Da Ali G Show.

According to Wikipedia:

Bruno (sometimes written as Brüno) is a fictional homosexual character played by Sacha Baron Cohen who first appeared during short sketches on The Paramount Comedy Channel in 1998, before reappearing on Da Ali G Show. Following the success of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Universal Studios acquired the rights to make the Bruno movie (now in production).

Bruno, who has no known surname, is a character claiming to be a reporter from an Austrian television station and interviews unsuspecting guests about topics such as fashion, entertainment, celebrities and homosexuality, with an emphasis on the latter as each interview progresses. The Austrian TV station’s logo features the letters ÖJRF (revealed once as Österreichischer Jungen Rundfunk, or in English, Austrian Boys Broadcast) inside a baby blue square, with a smaller purple square in the upper left quadrant. The name is similar to that of Austrian national broadcaster ORF (Österreichischer Rundfunk). The logo often appears on Bruno’s show in the upper right corner of the screen. Bruno’s segment on Da Ali G Show is called Funkyzeit mit Brüno (Funkytime with Brüno). (The show’s theme song is “Crank It Up”, by Scooter, from the album Our Happy Hardcore).

THR says Universal’s got the film scheduled for a May 15 2009 release, opposite Tom Hanks’ “Angels and Demons”.

The last time Sacha Cohen showed up in America to make fun of us stupid Yanks, he made a nice $128.5 million profit.

So remember, kids, when you see this douche bag (pictured, below) coming at you on the streets, run the other way. Or punch him in the face. Failure to do either/or will get you in a movie where people laugh at your inherent stupidity. You’ve been warned.
