French action director Pierre Morel’s European-set car heist flick “Overdrive” was all set to star Matthew Goode and Alex Pettyfer as brothers who run afoul of gangsters in the south of France. Oh my what a difference a year makes.
This year, the brothers are now being played by “Dredd’s” Karl Urban and “Snow White and the Huntsman’s” Sam Claflin, with “Game of Thrones'” Emilia Clarke also added to the cast. Not just that, but Morel, who was previously attached to direct, will now just produce, with After Dark Films regular Antonio Negret stepping in to take over the directing gig. Negret is coming off the horror flick “Seconds Apart” and more recently, the actioner “Transit” with Jim Caviezel.
Written by “Wanted” boys Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, “Overdrive” will find Urban and Claflin playing “two American brothers who decide to take their careers as car thieves to the next level by fleeing to France, where they run afoul of a dangerous black marketeer.” Hey, if you gotta run afoul of someone, a dangerous black marketeer isn’t such a bad choice.
No word on what character Clarke will be playing, though.
Morel, who started his career working in France on high-octane actioners like the “Transporter” series, promises that the film will “do things that you’ve never seen actual cars do before on screen”. No pressure, no pressure at all.
