Sam Jackson in The Last Dragon Remake? Sno’nuff!
The Last Dragon Remake Movie — By Nix on October 30, 2008
The Totally Unnecessary Hollywood Remake Bandwagon continues to roll on, but at least this time we can say it’s got an inspired bit of casting that may make the whole shebang justifiable: Samuel L. Jackson playing the role of Sho’nuff, the afro-sporting, karate-kicking bad guy from Barry Gordy’s ’80s musical kung-fu movie “The Last Dragon”. If you’ve seen the original “Dragon”, then you know Jackson was probably born to play this role. Who else but the baddest mofo in all of cinema to play the baddest mofo in all of Harlem? You’re damn skippy.
THR has more on the role and the new/old storyline:
Jackson will play Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry, whose spiel included asking ego-driven questions like “Am I the baddest mofo lowdown around this town?” Each time his gang of thugs answered, “Sho ’nuff!”
The updated plot will be along the same lines of the original, centering on young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon. Those who achieve the high ranking possess the Glow, making them the greatest fighter alive.
So who will play the new Taimak (aka Bruce Leroy) and the new Vanity to Jackson’s Shogun of Harlem? My suggestion would be, well, I don’t know. Is there a black actor in Hollywood today who can do martial arts, and whose name isn’t Wesley Snipes? As for the Vanity replacement, that’s a moot point. Just get a pretty face who can lip synch. How about Halle Berry?
Below: The original Sho’nuff makes his entrance in 1985’s “The Last Dragon”. Now just imagine it 50 times more badass.

Seriously I wanna be bruce leroy so bad Ive been doing martial arts since i was a youngin and I can act
hello my name is Zomeone’ and I am a up in coming music artist but I also watch alot of movies because i believe that the music in the movie is just as important as the movie itself. If I had to Give a top pick on who should play Bruce Leroy. My First Overall Pick would be a up and coming actor by the name of Brian White!!! thats right ladies and gentlemen Brian White!!!! Yes the leader of the theta nu theta. THETA THETA THETA WE ROCKIN THETA!!!! I feel like that he could feel the role out very good. He’s fresh, he’s clean cut, and he’s new face of the future in black hollywood. My other pick would actually be the man who started it all, MR. Taimak himself. I dont know if anyone has seen him lately, and no HOMO but the dude looks better now than he did when he played the role in the last dragon!! I mean the dude is ripped. check him out at his website http://www.taimak.tv. well those are my picks for right now so ill holla at yall later!!
I’m not even going to lie. I just saw The Last Dragon for the first time last year. My ex made me watch it. I was hating at first, but I really enjoyed it. We actually rented it after listening to a cd I got while I was in ATL at a concert. The cd was called The Last Dragon. A guy named Ozy Reigns made it. My ex said I couldn’t be all listening to the cd and not know where the idea came from. If they are going to remake the movie they need to do it right though. I think they can do it.
I think pooch hall would be perfect for bruce leroy. For all you people who dont know him.check him out on BET.The Game. you will see what i mean
“My suggestion would be, well, I don’t know. Is there a black actor in Hollywood today who can do martial arts, and whose name isn’t Wesley Snipes?” Yup and his name is Michael Jai White, who I think would actually make a badass Blade for the reboot, they’re thinking of or just reboot the show with him. See “Black Dynamite” and “Undisputed 2″ for proof. However he too is too old for the part. So it’s time to find some young, up and coming martial artist, or at least an actor with serious athletic ability. As for the Vanity role, DUH, Beyonce!!!
If they changed it up and Leroy wasn’t black. I’d say Taylor Lautner who is an accomplished martial artist.
Just wouldn’t be the same movie. It’s like remaking the Karate Kid with an adult. SHO NUFF!!!! I
Don’t get me wrong, I like Samuel L. Jackson but some people need to start turning him down for some of these roles. There are other talented black actors out there. Besides, Busta Rhymes had “Sho’ Nuff’s” character extremely down pat and actually looked exactly like Show’ Nuff in one of his videos. Busta Rhymes is an “in ya face” RA! RA! Ra! kinda guy and he is f@^%king ripped. This is a spoof kinda movie anyway and you don’t need classically trained or academy award winning actors for it you just need actors that embody those characters and sho’nuff(pun intended),Busta Rhymes would’ve been a way better choice. Hollywood needs to stop catering to “who’s hot right now”. By the way, I was born and raised in New York and I lived in various parts of Long Island. I lived in “Uniondale” Long Island which is where Busta Rhymes is from and I have met him and members “Charlie Brown” & “Dinko D” his old group “Leaders of the New School” and believe me Busta Rhymes really is wild like that for real it aint an act but he still is a cool dude at the same time.
The Busta Rhynes music video is called “Dangerous”. He looks like he was born to do that role. I wished Busta went back to his wacky & wild stuff a little bit. He’s TOOO serious now especially with the “roids” rumor. LOL!!! I guess he could do a song called “TOOO Serious” now. LOL!!!
Miss that video. ANd yeah me too. He played it to a T!!!! The guy that originally played him passed away a while back. Underated actor. Loved him on Brisco County Jr. as Lord Boulder.
