Sam Mendes Updates Preacher, Says it’s Getting Closer
Comic Book Movie News, Horror Movie News, Preacher Movie — By Nix on September 14, 2009
It’s not easy being a Southern preacher with a vampire sidekick. Just ask Jesse Custer, whose trials and tribulations was originally supposed to be a TV show from Mark Steven Johnson on HBO, but that fell through. (Some, especially non-fans of Mark Steven Johnson, would say it was for the best.). Then it was supposed to be a movie from Sam Mendes, but that was a while ago, and we haven’t heard a lot about the film’s progress until now.
The director of “Jarhead”, “Road to Perdition”, and “Revolutionary Road” recently updated Empire about the status of “Preacher”:
“It’s getting closer. I’ve seen a script and it’s very good. We’re a little further down the road than when I last spoke to you.”
Sounds good, right? Looks like things are rolling and we could get a “Preacher” movie soon. Unfortunately Mendes won’t be tackling the comic book movie until he finishes up an adaptation of Joseph O’Neill’s “Netherland”. So call it a year, maybe two, until “Preacher” ever sniffs the inside of a Hollywood production warehouse.
But hey, at least that “Ghost Rider” guy won’t be coming anywhere near it, so so what it if takes another year or two to get made.
