Sam Raimi Remaking 2 Euro Horror Titles

Sam Raimi has never let something as minor as originality stop him from making a buck. I think that much is clear when he signed on to return to make not one, but two more “Spider-Man” movies. (Because, you know, three movies wasn’t enough for Sam to tell the complete story of Spider-Man. Ahem.) Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures began life remaking Asian horror movies, and now that that particular well seems tapped (or at least, people seems to have gotten their fill of creepy ghost girls with long hair), Raimi and company are moving on to another part of the globe to plunder. This time, Europe. Up next for the man who used to make originality his calling card: remakes of “Room 205″ and “Anguish”.

Variety fills us in on the details:

“Anguish” follows two girls who, while watching a scary movie, find themselves in a horror film of their own when their life starts to mirror the pic’s plot.

Jake Wade Wall (”When a Stranger Calls”) penned the screenplay.

Ghost House has tapped “Room 205″ director Martin Barnewitz to helm the English-language remake, which is being redubbed “The Dorm.”

Story centers on a college freshman who moves into a dorm only to find that her room is haunted by sinister forces. Stephen Susco, who wrote “The Grudge” and “The Grudge 2,” is adapting.

Remember when you could count on anything with Sam Raimi’s name attached to it to be overly original and out-of-this-world creative? Nowadays, ol Sam is selling his name to any franchise that can afford it like a crack whore in a dark alleyway. I don’t know whether to applaud Sam for his brazen need for cold hard cash or pity him. Being that he probably wipes his butt with $100 bills, I’ll have to go with the former.
