Sam Raimi Returns to Superheroes with Transplants

Speaking of Sam Raimi, the “Spider-Man” director has landed at Disney, where he’s being paid (we presume) big bucks to produce (but probably not to direct) the superhero comedy “The Transplants”. What’s it about? No idea, no one is talking, but the project comes from Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson, the geniuses behind such great cinematic masterpieces as “Not Another Teen Movie”, “The Comebacks”, and the upcoming “Extreme Movie”, which, we presume, will present a scathing, brilliant take on extreme sports. Or maybe not. Basically, you know all those spoof movies that aren’t made by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer? Yeah, these other two guys that wrote “The Transplants” are responsible for them. God be with you, Sam Raimi.

THR has more on the project and Raimi’s involvement with Disney:

The parties are keeping a tight lid on the high-concept project, though it is described as a four-quadrant ensemble superhero story with a comedic bent.

Epstein and Jacobson, best known for “Not Another Teen Movie,” were planning to execute their idea via a comic book, but Disney exec Kristin Burr was so keen on it that the company pre-emptively picked up “Transplants.” The deal is in the mid- to high-six figures.

Stars Road executive Russell Hollander brought the project to the studio.

At this point, this sounds like another money making scheme by Raimi. (He’ll “produce”, they’ll be able to slap his name on the project in the ads, and he collects the check. *Cough*what a scam*cough) Raimi’s not above getting paid for the sake of getting paid, as all the crappy direct-to-DVD horror sequels that he’s cranking out via his Ghost House Pictures have made clear.
