Sam Raimi to Direct World of Warcraft Movie

The last time we heard about a possible “World of Warcraft” movie, it was over 2 years ago when some fan blog wrote about a possible plotline. Now the news is more concrete — as in, very official, and it’s this: Sam Raimi has signed up to direct a “World of Warcraft” movie, with plans to go into production as soon as he wraps “Spider-Man 4”. Which means if you were holding your breath for an “Evil Dead 4” or anything else that involves Raimi and Bruce Campbell, you can probably stop now. Then again, that doesn’t mean ol Sammy couldn’t put ol Brucey into his WOW movie.

The big news for all you WOW fans comes from Variety, who says that the master plan is for Raimi to supervise development of the WOW movie and hop right into production as soon as the latest Spidey adventure wraps. Charles Roven, who produced the Nolan Batman films, will produce for Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures, and videogame maker Blizzard Entertainment.

I don’t really know a whole lot about WOW. Sure, I know it exists, but I’ve never played it. I’m a gamer, but I’m not into these “play all day” type of games. It seems to require too much time and devotion, to be honest with you. Granted, I don’t have much of a social life, but I have some, you know. No offense, WOW gamers.

So what’s the movie version going to be about? Variety says the game itself it set in a universe that features an epic conflict between the Horde and the Alliance. Sound conflict-y.
