Sam Raimi Wants Dunst Back on Spidey 4, Evil Dead 4 Update

Let’s face it, at this point an “Evil Dead 4″ movie is looking less and less likely. After all, why would Sam Raimi, who seems to be more businessman than filmmaker nowadays (how many movies does Sammy have on the remake chopping block again?), could make more money and spend less time doing it just to reboot the franchise with a younger director, as he’s been talking about? In this interview with SciFiWire, ol Sam all but kills the idea of a fourth “Evil Dead” movie. And oh yeah, he also talks about wanting to bring Kristen Dunst back to “Spider-Man 4″ for God knows why.

Raimi tells SciFiWire ala Dunst and “Spider-Man 4″:

“I’m hoping that she is going to come aboard, and I’ve got a meeting coming up with her,” Raimi said in a group interview last week in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting his upcoming horror film Drag Me to Hell. “I think she would like to. But I don’t want to speak on behalf of her.”

Oh come off it, Sam. You’re not going to have to convince her of anything. Given how Kristen Dunst’s movies without the word “Spider” or “Man” in the title are doing at the box office nowadays, she should thank her lucky stars someone seems even remotely interested in putting her in a movie. Much less having to convince her to do something. Give me Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen Stacy over Dunst’s MJ any day.

Meanwhile, here’s what Raimi said about the “Evil Dead 4″ movie:

I don’t have just some ideas written down, but I said that last month, and there was a very negative reaction from the fans: “Why does he keep talking about that movie? Where is that movie?” It’s just because people ask me, but I don’t really have anything at all worked out right now.

Here’s a suggestion, Sam: Next time someone asks you? Just say, “It’s never going to happen, stop asking me about it”, instead of, you know, making up bullshit stories about how you and your bro are writing the script right now, etc etc.

Well, while I agree that Bryce Howard’s Gwen Stacy was good, it just doesn’t work for me. I mean, come on, anyone that knows anything about the Spidey backstory in the comics knows that Gwen is dead. Killed by the Green Goblin. Seeing as how old Gobby is already dead, it really made no sense to even bring Gwen in in the third Spidey movie. If Spider-Man is going to have a love interest, it NEEDS to be Mary Jane. And who is Mary Jane? Kirsten Dunst. Why do we want her in the movies? Because, even given most of her movies flop, she is a good actress. Not great, but good. Plus, I think she really brings the drama of the whole Peter/MJ relationship to life. To top it off, yes, Kirsten happens to be incredibly hot. Personally, I think the worse casting of the movie was Toby Maguire as Spidey. I know a lot of people will disagree with me on that, but he is just TOO dorky. Once again, look at the comics. Peter grows up, and all of a sudden he is less of a geek. Toby, however, will be geeky for the rest of his life. Not to mention that his acting is sub-par at best. I guess this is par for the films, because, in my opinion, there have been a lot of casting and story mistakes in the Spider-Man movies. Most of the villains have been great, don’t get me wrong. But Thomas Haden Church as Sandman? He turned that character into somewhat of a wuss, but, then again, so did the storyline. But Topher Grace as Venom? Talk about a mistake. Not only that, but, once again, the fact that the storyline just obliterated the character. I really would like to see a good, old fashioned storyline with Spidey in 4, and how about we just leave it to one villain this time? I think that would be best.
