Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures Brings the Sequels
Boogeyman 2 (2007) Movie, Boogeyman 3 (2008) Movie, Horror Movie News, The Grudge 3 (2009) Movie, The Messengers 2 (2008) Movie — By Nix on December 2, 2007 |
I guess it had to happen: Sam Raimi is now in the movie business to make money. Okay, so maybe they’re all in the movie biz to make money, but it just feels kind of wrong to see Sam Raimi and his Ghost House production company get so crass about it. Fangoria has your look at all the horror sequels that Raimi and company will be dumping in the coming years on an unsuspecting populace: “Boogeyman” 2 and 3, “The Messengers 2″, “The Grudge 3″, and “Rise 2″, the sequel to the lackluster Lucy Liu vampire horror film from last year.
Fangoria has “Boogeyman 2″ coming out on DVD in January 2008, with part three already geared up to follow the first sequel directly to DVD. “Boogeyman 2″ is directed by Jeff Betancourt and written by Brian Sieve. It will star Renée O’Connor and Tobin Bell (”Saw”). The plot:
The script centers on a young woman with a long-term phobia of the bogeyman, who voluntarily checks herself into a mental health facility with the hope of conquering her overwhelming fears. However, much to her horror, she discovers that some things are terrifying on purpose, and confronting her demons was not the best course of action.
In part three, also written by Sieve:
..[tells] the story of a college girl named Sarah Morris, who witnesses the suicide of her roommate which is really the work of the title phantom. As the creature starts picking off her friends, it falls to Sarah to stop it before the entire campus is wiped out.
“Rise 2″ will follow “a young woman named Lexi Stone and her brother [who] are kidnapped by vampires who transform her into a creature of the night. Lexi must then not only keep her new bloodsucking desires in check but save her sibling from the ghouls as well.”
The other sequel is “Grudge 3″, which appears to be the only sequel going into the theaters, as I think the “Grudge” franchise still has a little life left in it. Or at least, there are still enough suckers willing to shell out good money to see it. More:
Reversing the basic plot of the previous entries, this one’s about a Japanese woman who travels to the U.S.—specifically the Chicago apartment building that was plagued in GRUDGE 2, where she joins forces with the tenants to face down the evil spirit of Kayako.
That plot is different than the one listed on IMDB.com, which says:
A news crew travels to Tokyo after hearing about the curse that took out a whole apartment complex. When the lead reporter finds out she’s pregnant strange things begin to occur leading her to wonder what she may be carrying.
And then there’s “The Messengers 2″, which I guess you demanded it (well, didn’t you?):
THE MESSENGERS 2, penned by the original’s Todd Farmer, will be a prequel exploring how John Rollins brought the malevolent supernatural force down upon himself and his family in an attempt to save their farm.
“Messengers 2″ will most definitely go straight to DVD, along with the “Boogeyman” sequels, and “Rise 2″.
