Yes, if “Nottingham” star Russell Crowe gets his way, and you gotta figure that Russell Crowe will get his way, he being Russell Crowe and we being not and all. According to Latino Review, the ol Crowe is itching to get “Control” star Sam Riley (pictured, left) to play Robin Hood in he and director Ridley Scott’s revisionist take on the Robin Hood legend. According to LR’s source, Crowe became enamored with Riley after seeing the Brit actor star in the indie movie “Control”, about Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis, and as such has Riley on the top of his list to co-star opposite him in “Notthingham”.
In the film, Crowe would play the oft-misunderstood Sheriff of Nottingham, a good cop just trying to do his job, except there’s this punk name Robin Hood running around Sherwood Forest robbing people and maybe or maybe not giving to the poor. Problem is, everyone is on the punk’s side, so where does that leave the Sheriff? And oh yeah, you know that girl the Sheriff has had his eyes on for a while now — Maid Marion? Yup, she’s only got eyes for the thieving punk. Bloody hell! (As the Brits would say.)
To make matters worst, Maid Marion is now played by Sienna Miller (pictured, below). Damn, it’s good to be Robin Hood.
Or maybe not. According to this, Christian Bale is the one eyeing the role:
Christian Bale, soon to be seen as the caped crusader in The Dark Knight, is in talks about donning the jolly Lincoln Green outfit of Robin Hood, where he will be part of a menage a trois between Russell Crowe’s Sheriff of Nottingham and Sienna Miller’s Maid Marian.
Nothing is signed for Bale, but director Ridley Scott is exceedingly keen to cast him.
Costume fittings begin next week, so he’ll be either in or out by then. Vanessa Redgrave and William Hurt are also in discussions about being in the film, which is called Nottingham.
So Scott wants Bale, and Crowe wants some nobody name Sam Riley. If either of these stories are true, I’m gonna have to go with Bale on this one, although considering that Bale’s got his hands full with the new “Terminator” trilogy, this story seems very unlikely.
So, back to Sam Riley as Robin Hood.
