Samuel L. Jackson, already on the hook to mentor a teenage girl killer in an upcoming live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime “Kite”, will be mentoring another teenage girl killer in the Brett Ratner-produced “Barely Lethal”.
“Lethal” will star “True Grit’s” Hailee Steinfeld as “a 16-year-old international assassin yearning for a “normal” adolescence who fakes her own death and enrolls as a senior in a suburban high school.”
She discovers, much to her chagrin, that the hallways of high school is just as dangerous (if not more so) than being an international assassin. It’s all hyperbole, of course, but then again, so are 16-year old international assassins.
Jackson will play Steinfeld’s mentor in the film, a role that sounds remarkably like the one he’s playing in “Kite”, where he mentors another teenage killer looking to avenge her father’s murder. “Kite” was supposed to have started shooting earlier this year in Johannesburg, South Africa, but I’m not sure if it actually did.
As for “Barely Lethal”, Kyle Newman will direct from a script by John D’Arco.
