In the wacky, futuristic world of “Robocop”, the media is prevalent and scarily powerful, and the man who controls the media is king. So when I hear that Samuel L. Jackson will be playing a “media mogul” in the upcoming “Robocop” reboot by Jose Padilha, there’s a very good chance that it also means Jackson will be playing a shady guy, perhaps even the main villain. The man behind the chaos, if you will.
For now, though, we only know that Jackson will be playing Pat Novak, who is described as “a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world.” Like I said — either the bad guy, or the man pulling all the strings.
Jackson joins “The Killing’s” Joel Kinnaman, who has been tapped to play Alex Murphy, the Detroit cop who gets himself shot to pieces and is “resurrected” as the law-enforcement cyborg known as Robocop. Said Robocop is the creation of one Doctor Norton, to be played by Gary Oldman.
MGM’s remake has been in the makings for a while, but with Padilha and Kinnaman attached, it seems to be finally rolling towards a start date. As you’ll recall, none other than Darren Arnofsky was, at one point, set to direct. Fortunately, the Laws of Man saw fit to stop such an abomination. Darren Aronofsky should not be directing comic book movies or films about killer cyborg cops. It just ain’t right.
