Before Dracula went and got himself a whole buncha brides, he only had one — and actress Sarah Gadon will play her in the upcoming “Dracula” starring Luke Evans as the title bloodsucker, here re-envisioned as a noble warrior/ruler who must do terrible things to save his people and the woman he loves.
Evans is already attached to play Prince Vlad in a take on the bloodsucker that will, we’re told, be a mixture of “mythology and history”, which, in Hollywood speak, probably means taking the real Vlad and just totally making shit up around him as they go.
Gary Shore, who made a real name for himself when he created the short film “The Cup of Tears” (below, if you’ve never seen it), will make his feature film debut on the movie, which was once called “Dracula: Year Zero” back when Alex Proyas (“Dark City”) was still attached to direct.
Universal is hoping to move pretty fast on the film, and has already set a August 8, 2014 release date.
The Brit Evans, of course, is currently menacing the boys of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, while the Canadian Gadon is coming off “Cosmopolis” and “A Dangerous Mind”, and has the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller “An Enemy” in the pipeline.
