For those of you not feeling Sarah Gadon as Mary Jane Watson in Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” series, have no fear, she’s not playing MJ as recently rumored.
Gadon herself confirmed the news via Twitter.
To all those a twitter, I will not be playing MJ in Spider-Man. I have a role in the film, but it is not that one

Rumors of Gadon replacing Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane was a bit of a perfect storm. It followed in the footsteps of confirmation that Mary Jane wouldn’t be appearing in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ after all, that the character would now be saved for Parts 3 and 4. Then there were rumors that Woodley would be leaving the franchise despite having already shot a few scenes for the second part.
On the same day as the second rumor, Gadon officially confirmed to media outlets that she had joined the casting of the Marc Webb film, leaving many to connect the dots. After all, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ has been in production for over three months, why would they be adding a new actor for a role now? So Gadon had to be the franchise’s new Mary Jane if Woodley was indeed being let go, right?
Turns out, no, and Gadon’s tweet confirms that.
So what the heck is going on with the Mary Jane Watson role? Is Woodley still attached? If so, why has her name suddenly disappeared off the film’s official cast list on IMDB.com? And if Gadon isn’t playing MJ, who is she playing, and why did it take so long to cast her? Is it a new role?
To add to the confusion is tweeting machine Marc Webb’s silence on the matter. For a guy who tweets every little thing from the set, it’s amazing how quiet he’s been on this.
Curiouser and curiouser…
