Luc Besson makes some pretty funny action movies. I don’t mean funny as in ha-ha, I mean funny as in, “Wait, is this movie supposed to make sense?” Cause you know, they don’t. And you can’t really blame it on the French-to-English translations. Besson these days just makes weird films that have almost no logical coherence to them.
I suspect his latest, the Scarlett Johansson starrer “Lucy” will be in a similar vein. It’s got one of those million-dollar ideas (ScarJo becomes Neo from “The Matrix” after getting injected with some drugs), but man, the logic behind this one makes “The Big Bang Theory” actually sound smart. (Not really.)
Anyhoos. Check out a new Chinese featurette (it’s in English, don’t worry) from “Lucy,” and watch ScarJo do what she does in a red band clip.
From “La Femme Nikita” and “The Professional” to “The Fifth Element,” writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in “Lucy,” an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Analeigh Tipton, and Choi Min-Sik.
The accidental Superwoman of our dreams fights back this July 25th.
