So yeah, Luc Besson and Scarlett Johansson’s new movie “Lucy” is a science fiction flick in the vein of “The Matrix” and whatnot. And here I thought it was going to be more “Crank,” but apparently I was wrong. It’s more like “The Matrix” crossed with “Akira” crossed with “La Femme Nikita.”
Luc Besson writes and directs, so you can pretty much expect a lot of nonsensical plotting, a kick-ass heroine, and tons of stuff that look cool, but don’t really make a lot of sense if you spend more than a few seconds thinking about it. That essentially defines Besson’s writing these days. But hey, I did mention that stuff will look really cool, right? And this trailer for “Lucy” certainly doesn’t disappoint.
From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Morgan Freeman, Analeigh Tipton, and Min-sik Choi. Yes, you read that correctly. Min-sik Choi is in this one, playing, from the looks of it, a sleazy bad guy.
Lucy does what she do this August 8th.
