Scary Movie 5 Gets a Director

Malcolm D. Lee on the set of Undercover Brother (2002) Movie ImageApparently they’re not going to reboot the “Scary Movie” franchise as originally thought, and will just end up doing a “Scary Movie 5″. Which is probably the way to go. How in the world were they even going to reboot a franchise built entirely on spoofing other movies? I suppose they could spoof horror movie reboots. That’s one way to go about it.

But whatever they end up doing with “Scary Movie 5″, the comedy franchise has now officially hired on a director in Malcolm Lee (“Undercover Brother”), with David Zucker of “Scary Movie 3″ and “4” returning as writer and producer.

Hard to believe, but it’s been over 6 years since “Scary Movie 4″, and 12 years since the first “Scary Movie”. The thing about these spoof films is that you’re never out of material, as long as Hollywood continues making genre movies. Of course, the mining of said genre films will have to be on the newer releases, since each spoof entry can only mine the films that’s come before it and after the previous entry.

So yeah, “Scary Movie 5″ has six years worth of bad horror movie tropes to play with. And of course, the pot jokes. And Anna Faris. You can’t have a “Scary Movie” movie without pot jokes and Anna Faris, after all.
