So what’s Scott Adkins’ ninja-rific hero from 2009’s “Ninja” been up to? Well, turns out he’s got a pretty sweet life, and he’s now married to the lovely Namiko and they’re about to have a kid. Then she gets killed. Oops! That, of course, sends Adkins’ character on a suicide mission to whack the man responsible, which apparently entails kicking a whole lotta ass, sometimes shirtless. (Dude’s buff.) After all, what self-respecting ninja would just let the murder of his wife and unborn child go unpunished. Know what I mean?
Check out the first trailer for Adkins and director Isaac Florentine’s “Ninja: Shadow of a Tear”. Florentine also directed the 2009 movie, and it looks like he’s really cranked up the action for the sequel.
Casey Bowman has finally settled down. He’s happily married to Namiko (who is pregnant with their first child), living in Japan and teaching at the Koga dojo. While buying her a present, Casey is attacked by two punks. He shrugs it off, assuming it to be a simple mugging. But when Namiko is brutally murdered later that same night, Casey’s world falls apart. Stricken with grief and thirsty for revenge, Casey tracks down the two thugs who tried to rob him, but they can’t provide him with any clues to his wife’s murder. So Casey travels to Thailand, to the dojo of a close friend. His grief and anger are taking control of him and he lashes out while sparring with other students. When one of the students is killed in the same way as Namiko, Casey finally gets the clues he needs to track down his wife’s killer and unravel a mystery of grudges deep in the Burmese jungle.
Starring Scott Adkins, Shun Sugata, Mika Hijii, “Only God Forgives'” Vithaya Pansringarm, and someone who should know a thing or two about ninja movies, Kane Kosugi.
No word on a release date yet, so late 2013 would be my guess.
