Wolverine’s long list of enemies (seriously, the guy makes tons of them at the drop of a hat) has just gotten longer with the addition of British martial artist Scott Adkins (pictured, left), who has joined the cast of the “X-Men” spin-off as Weapon 11, one of many “weapons” sent to take down the feral Canucklehead. Adkins is most known to fans of moderately budgeted straight-to-DVD action movies, with his latest being the Godawful Jean-Claude Van Damme movie “The Shepherd: Border Agent”, one of those movies that was so awful I couldn’t even force myself to write a scathing review for it.
Spoke to my buddy Isaac Florentine today, a fellow martial-arts aficionado and the director of such films as “Undisputed 2” and “The Shepherd : Border Patrol”, who tells me Scott Adkins, an actor who appears in near all of Florentine’s films, has jettisoned down under to join the cast of “Wolverine”.
Adkins, who played the Russian jailbird who pummels Michael Jai White in the “Undisputed” sequel, will take on a similar role in this (um, someone who fights). He’ll play Weapon 11, one of the many mutants of the X-world, whose main objective is to rip the claws from Wolverine.
Adkins also had a small role in “The Bourne Ultimatum”. Now he can add another mega Hollywood production to his list of credits.
Hopefully, this will mean a brighter career for the ass kicker, because let’s face it, there’s only so many ways you can keep fooling yourself about your movie career when you’re losing in a fight to an aging, slow-as-molasses Jean-Claude Van Damme in a movie.
